| Basic know how The JRT's history John "jack" Russell a man with devotion & Ideal aims |
| A Jack Russell Terrier is NO actually breed... But a type of breed with a certain breeding standard- The Heineman breed standard John Russell was not the founder of the white working terrier/fox terrier type. Fact is that he developted a certain Terrier breed typ... with many mixing in from others with Fox terrier,Selyham,Bull terrier, Lakeland,Border Terrier aso. As a matter of fact the Jack Russell is more a collective name for a certain type of the white bred old Fox terrier type in many different shapes, sizes, colours, and coats. Terrier comes from the latin word terra = earth. in 1100 century the first Terriers were mentioned in books and used for hunting below ground All terriers has it's origin in the T/B Tan & Brown terrier with rough coat in very many different shapes. The white ones was initially seen as unfunctionally in hunting practis with the lack of good genes( albino, deafness ) in particular the white/smooth terriers was seen as bad ones, Beacuse of this practical aspects many was killed because of this white colour/gene. important: the white colour gene = recessive and the brown/black is dominant genes. breeding JRT = double up the heritage for the white gene colour. In the Lake districts and other districts a terrier was seen as a good one to keep for to get something for dinner ... rabbits for the poor working class families. But also seen in some gambling with dog fights... But this type of terrier was a pure nature product often local in the villages inbred and with no special Breed signs-standard. Mainly because the infrastructure wasn't build up by this time- travelling was expensive. So the dog next door was good enough in the matter of mating and to get new ones from. But in the 1800 century there was a big change in the type of Terriers. Suddenly by the landowning class in rural areas which was able to keep many dogs- a pack there was a start of breeding the terriers all becasue the rised need for it in hunting-enjoyment. The first Terrier breeds had its start as a sort of a breed standard by different types in different counties. The 1:th Hunts started up and was an exclusive pastime for the upper class. Also the hunting horses become a hausse by the same time, mainly caused in the need of hunting horses build/bred for to be skilled enough to be hunting by horse in a HUNT with its paying members. Almost every county by this time had a type of Terrier The upper class began with DOG -SHOWS. The need in conformation-similiary type&colour went a must. The posh ladies had a preference for nice looking white dogs more seen as a pet dog, smooth coated often seen in art/pictures from this time with small girls or females with smooth coated white terriers often Fox terrier. John Jack Russell was a well seen partcipant in hunts brought up in a upper middle class family boarding school & access to hunts by his family contacts John Jack Russell had right from start invitations by the landowning families with hunts His interest in hunting was well known and in lack of money he said he had a cold or something. Jaohn Russell started up his breeding carrer with the Fox Terrier... Indeed very successfull and won a lot of shows with his nice Fox Terriers but he was also well seen as judge in many Terrier shows. But somehow the big changes started The Terriers began to be more a show dog/exteriour type, upper class dog too big in size. The Function/hunting skill came in the second place. John Russell was a bit of a rebell... Went his own way, but mainly because his very skilled hunting Fox Terrier the right contacts like his contacts with the Royal family some Lords... He was still welcome to a hunt many wellknown esteemed Hunts bought their start live stock for the terrier pack from John Russell Theres a lot of stories about his "foundation" of the JRT... But John Russell was a very ambitious man always with an certain aim in particular in breeding for Type/Conformation& Function. Therefore the story about Trump... was more based in a certain search for his type...but perhaps found by this milkman told in the stories. |
