| Breeding or not Breeding's "To be or not to be" Short Intro to Canine Inherited Disease |
| copyright Susan de Ron "Improve is better than Cure" "Information & Knowledge = 1 step Forward" To start up Breeding is also a calculated matter of Risks & must always include The Need of Research & Information and in particular the must of Feed Back The Genetics include 2 Important parts Phenotype = What we can see with the eye- exteriour-conformation -the physical characteristics of the dog Genotype = All That's hidden for the eye- the particular type and arrangement of Genes/DNA that each dog has Dominant & Recessive Genes which gives a predisposition for a particular defect or positive gene hereditary in each dogs personal "Gene make up " Each Puppy get his/her "Personal Gene make up mix" from each of the Parents. If one Puppe have a Defect it means One or Both of the Parents must be carrier of this Gene. The other Puppies in the litter will also be Latent carrier of this Defect in different % . Basic DNA 1 Puppy= 100%..... Genetic Hereditary in %= Sire & Dam= each Parent = 50 % Grandfather & Grandmother = each =25 % Great Grandfather & Great Grandmother = each =12,5 % Great Great Grandfather & Great Great Grandmother = each = 6,25 % aso.... A puppy can be looking like his Great Grandfather... Or get a Defect that have been hidden for some generation = Can also get it from Parents which doesn't show own Visible Symptoms or Defects. Inbreeding always includes big risk taking No Stud Dog is that Super ...that he will be able to correct more than 2 Exteriour Faults by a Bitch. The Pedigree/Documentation=A&O + The Parents Exteriour, Function,Temper = Important to have a look on before you start up Your Breeding nr 1 Question = Why do you want to be a Breeder ? nr 2 Question = Are your Dogs Well documented & Sound & Exteriour =Breed Standard ? nr 3 Question = What is Your Aim with Breeding ? The fast Money ? or to Produce & Preserve Selected Blood lines in a Particular Breeding Plan ? What ever You want with Your Breeding.... Each litter You Produce = A new litter=More individs with the same "Gene Make Up" as your Parents Dogs have... But in different % and some will be better... some will have defects and some disease. It's not responsibility to take to many litters with the same Bitch or Stud Dog. Why ? PRA and Lens Luxation = will give symptoms at 3-6 Years of age Legg Perthes and Patella Luxation = are mostley seen first after 6 Months of Age or Do you go on breeding with the Bitch when a whole litter is stillborn or dies after the Birth ? Or when the same Stud Dog give dead puppies with bitches from the same Blood lines ? Or when a Stud dog gives Stillborn puppies or puppies that dies with Bitches from different Kennels in this serious matter is Research & Feed back & to be Honest very Important. Cerebellar Ataxia / 2 different location sort = the 1: th signs 2-4 week of age Puppy weakness- Neuroligal disease/balance/coordination difficulties/moving problem(Wobbler) Dogs who will have a sort of Neuroligal sympthoms/problems and also sometimes a sort of Epilepsy life long or have to be put to sleep. Streptococcus & Bruxccellis & Herpes = often result in dead Puppies until the 2:ond week Blue Babies syndrom= Puppies that suddenly went weak stop to breathe and dies NOTICE THE NAME HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE COLOUR OF THE PUPPY = NOT BLUE COLOURED PUPPIES !! Nobody have 100% Guarentees about Breeding.... No matter how Careful or The research You have done before ... Because Breeding = Different Combinations with 100% Living Material NO STUD DOG Produce the same Material with each Bitch NOTICE not even the same Parents will give the same result twice. That's ---- Breeding "To be or not to be" Wish You the best of luck ...Information = A&O...Improve is always better than Cure...
